THE CURATOR’S NOTES

The Story of“Chinese Bouquet Rust” by Herend

THIS SET
Herend's Chinese Bouquet pattern has graced the tables of European nobility and design connoisseurs since the 1860s, maintaining its position as one of the manufactory's most enduring and versatile designs. This set of six dinner plates in the warm Rust colorway combines museum-quality hand-painted artistry with sculptural scalloped edges—each individually gilt-trimmed to create dimensional sophistication that elevates everyday dining into collected heirloom moments.

This set includes:
• Six (6) Dinner Plates, Shape 524 - 10" diameter (25.4cm)

An ideal starting point for collectors seeking authentic European porcelain rather than contemporary imitations, this set delivers Herend's documented heritage at an accessible price—the same timeless pattern featured regularly in Veranda and Town & Country as a design editor favorite for its enduring versatility.

Details:
• Collection: Herend Porcelain | Design: "Chinese Bouquet Rust" (Apponyi Orange)
• Material: Hungarian hard-paste porcelain with hand-painted underglaze decoration in rust and coral tones, 24k gold scalloped rim
• Size: 10" diameter (25.4cm)
• Made in: Hungary
• Production Period: 1990s (matching backstamp era to accompanying tureen and bowl service)
• Authentication: Blue castle backstamp reading "HANDPAINTED HEREND HUNGARY" with Shape 524 marking
• Condition: Excellent—museum-quality presentation with no chips, cracks, repairs, or crazing across all six plates. All 24k gilt trim intact with no wear on delicate scalloped edges. Eating surfaces pristine with no knife marks or utensil scratches. Plates stack perfectly with no warping.

The Chinese Bouquet Rust pattern showcases Herend's mastery of hand-painted botanical artistry, featuring stylized peony blossoms and bamboo sprays in warm rust and coral tones accented with 24k gold. These Shape 524 dinner plates feature elegant scalloped edges with individual gilt detailing that creates dimensional sophistication. The 10" scale provides generous plating surface for formal dinners while the sculptural rim elevates presentation beyond standard flat-edge plates. The coral-to-rust gradient particularly suits contemporary interiors embracing warm earth tones, and each plate's hand-painted botanical placement varies slightly, creating an artisan collection rather than mass-produced uniformity. Perfect for completing existing Chinese Bouquet services or starting a curated collection focused on this sophisticated warm-toned colorway.
