Per Lütken's designs are known for their clean lines and functional beauty, the very essence of Danish modernism in the mid-twentieth century. Here those qualities shape a large bowl where form stands above decoration. Its glass carries the clarity prized in Scandinavian glassmaking, honest and quietly bold.

Royal Copenhagen began in a former post office. There, in 1775, an apothecary named Müller founded a porcelain manufactory in Copenhagen with Dowager Queen Juliane Marie as its patron. From the start it painted its porcelain in underglaze blue. Blue Fluted soon became its very first pattern, and it is still made.
Its first pieces were made for the royal family. In 1779 the King took over its finances, and it became the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory. In 1790 Denmark's court ordered Flora Danica as a gift for Catherine the Great. At the 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris, the celebrated house won the Grand Prix.
By its own account every flute, curve and brushstroke is made by hand. Flora Danica is painted in Denmark to this day, and the Danish royal family brings it out on special occasions.
