About the Artist:
Tina Garcia (1957-2005) was a distinguished artist from Santa Clara Pueblo, though some works attributed to her have surfaced from Acoma Pueblo. She was born in Oregon and moved to Santa Clara Pueblo at the age of five, where she learned traditional pottery-making from her mother, Lydia Tafoya Garcia, and grandmother, Severa Tafoya. She became a full-time potter in 1980, mastering hand-coiled pottery and polished black and red ware.
